Friday is Top day! Every other Friday, Artprice publishes a theme-based auction ranking. This week: resales of contemporary Chinese artists who sold for more than $100,000 in 2008.
The first edition of Art Basel Hong Kong proved to be a great success with public and dealers alike, attracting 60,000 visitors.
While Art Basel and the FIAC have each been going for 38 and 42 years respectively, the much younger Frieze Art Fair has quickly established itself as a key event on the international agenda.
The ArtHK fair is impressive both in terms of size and diversity (260 galleries on three levels of the Convention & Exhibition Center and 38 countries represented)
This month the European art market will gyrate to the rhythm of the contemporary art fairs, with the Frieze Art Fair starting 12 October in London and then the Paris FIAC on 26 October and Art Cologne on 1 November. At the same time, the auction houses will capitalise on these events by organising major concurrent sales of contemporary art.
Before the fall season begins, Artprice here provides a brief overview of the ebullient contemporary art market so far this year.
