Comments: He came to the U.S. in 1860, living in Memphis and Baltimore, and finally Wash., DC, where he worked in Matthew Brady's photography studio. After the end of the Civil War, he lived in Baltimore until around 1900, when he returned to Wash., DC. He visited Europe in 1907-08, and spent the rest of his life in Baltimore.
