SUMMA CONTEMPORARY

The International Art Fair returns with its third edition at the Matadero Madrid.

For the third consecutive year SUMMA CONTEMPORARY is being held at the Matadero Madrid, this time from 10 to 13 September, under the direction of Paco de Blas.

SUMMA CONTEMPORARY is an international fair which brings together more than 50 galleries and exhibitors spread between its Main Section (Sección Principal) and the Transversal, as well as a section called Trazos (Strokes), which is a new addition this year. There will also be a publishing zone in which diverse artistic projects will be carried out. More than 50 galleries have been approved by the Selection Committee so far, almost half of them coming from 13 countries such as the USA, Argentina, Colombia, Canada, Mexico, France and the UK. 50% of them have already featured at SUMMA in previous years.

The Selection Committee of SUMMA 2015 will incorporate the galleries: Casa sin Fin from Madrid/Cáceres, Document Art Gallery, from Buenos Aires, Galería Enrique Guerrero, from Mexico DF; Espacio Mínimo from Madrid, Luis Adelantado from Valencia and waterside contemporary from London.

GENERAL SECTION

We would like to highlight the presence of galleries that are coming back, like Filomena Soares (Lisbon), with works by Río Branco and Helena Almeida. The Galería Enrique Guerrero (México DF) is bringing Richard Stipl and Pepe Zlamal. The gallery of El Museo/Fernando Pradilla (Bogotá/Madrid) with works by Alejandro Bombín, Ignacio Bautista, Santiago Morilla, Edwin Monsalve, Emilio Gañán, Germán Gómez, Jorge Magyaroff, Adriana Duque y Nadín Ospina; CARLOS CARVALHO ARTE CONTEMPORÂNEA with Ricardo Angélico, José Batista Marques, Isidro Blasco, Carla Cabanas, Mónica de Miranda and Javier Nuñez Gasco. Luis Adelantado (Valencia/México DF) is bringing work by Allan Villavicencio, Max Estrella (Madrid) by José Ramón Amondarain and Document Art Gallery (Buenos Aires) with Martín Cordiano.

In this section we also look forward to new galleries like BARÓ (Sao Paulo) which is coming with an integrated project by y Stupí; Beta pictoris gallery/Maus Contemporary (Birmingham, Alabama) with work by Eugene James Martin; La Ira de Dios (Buenos Aires), which will show Pedro Wainer y Carolina Magnin; the latest North American painting in LPM Projects (Ottawa) with Andrew Moncrief; Ponce + Robles (Madrid) will present work by Maíllo and TUB Gallery Miami (Miami) will show the work of Hisae Ikenaga.

There will be no shortage of photography at SUMMA, with galleries like: Casa sin fin (Madrid/Cáceres) with Manolo Laguillo, Javier Codosal and Daniel G. Andujar; Aina Nowack/ACC with Alberto Schommer; TRINTA (Santiago de Compostela) with Jesús Madriñán, and Espacio Valverde (Madrid) with Luis Asín.

THE TRANSVERSAL SECTION is composed of two commissioned itineraries.

Jota Castro has developed “How to collect political art”. With offerings like that of the gallery T20 (Murcia), with Democracy and Victor Jaenada among others; or the gallery AURAL (Alicante) which displays Ingrid Wildi-Merino. An excellent look at the youngest Italian art in this same line is the offer from Prometeo Gallery (Milan), which brings Gabriela Ciancimino and Fabrizio Cotognini; while waterside contemporary (London), will display the work of Oreet Ashery.

Africa Focus" curated by Gabriela Salgado is an opportunity to get closer to another area of creation strongly committed to its surrounding reality and its global projection. The gallery from Zimbabwe, First Floor Gallery; Filomena Soares (Lisbon); CARLOS CARVALHO ARTE CONTEMPORANEA (Lisbon) and Carles Taché Projects (Barcelona). The section "TRAZOS" (“STROKES”) presents Luis Adelantado (Valencia/México DF), Rafael Ortiz (Sevilla/Madrid), Galería Fúcares (Almagro) and PUNTO (Valencia).

SUMMA PROJECTS

SUMMA MAG is a programme curated by Marisol Salanova that brings together a selection of publishers which present books related to art, design, architecture, poetry, illustration and artistic objects.

At Summa, Everything is very expensive”. A PROJECT BY ANTONIO CARO

SUMMA aspires to introduce the social context into the art market, which, in turn, flourishes within it. We resume the project “In Madrid everything is very expensive”, by the artist Antonio Caro, turning it into a call to attention about the artistic world and the implications for the market.

SUMMA ENCUENTROS

Over the last few months, SUMMA has organised along with the art critic Fernando Castro Flórez, a cycle of conferences called “The value of art”. In this cycle the following artists took part: Isidoro Valcárcel Medina, Jaime Lavagne y Juan Luis Moraza. The cycle closed with a conversation about the art market between Fernando Castro Flórez and Paco de Blas during the closing day of the exhibition of the Goetz collection in the Fundación Banco Santander. During the fair they will continue holding interventions on the art market and collecting.
