Eugène Boudin est le peintre par excellence des « ciels brouillés », de la lumière changeante, des atmosphères fugitives, du gris nacré des nuages et du clapotis des ports, de leurs grands trois-mâts, thèmes infinis de ses recherches.
Si Boudin est l’un des pères spirituels de l’Impressionnisme, il est le maître incontesté des atmosphères marines et des beautés météorologiques, comme l’écrivit Charles Baudelaire.
