Comments: He started sketching cowboys as a youth but later became a commercial artist in Denver and owned an engraving studio there. In 1937 he moved to Los Angeles and began painting again, traveling through the Southwest in search of subject matter and maintaining studios in Los Angeles as well as on his ranch in Utah. For short periods he lived among Native Americans and in the last 14 years of his life he built a reputation as an interpreter of western life.
