biography of William DEARING (XVIII)

Profession: Ship carver

Comments: During the 1790's Dearing (or Deering) worked at Kittery (Me.) and Portsmouth (N.H.). In 1798 he went to Newburyport (Mass.), where he carved a figurehead for the Merrimac, and the following year to Salisbury (Mass.) to carve a figurehead (now in the Old State House, Boston) for the Warren.
