biography of George DIXEY (?-c.1853)
Addresses: NYC
Profession: Sculptor and carver
Exhibited: American Academy (1817-20); PAFA (1818)
Comments: He was a son of the Irish-American sculptor, John Dixey, and brother of the landscape painter, John V. Dixey. He succeeded his father in the carving and gilding business in NYC (1821-32), and continued to live in NYC, with no recorded occupation, until 1853. He died probably in 1853 or 1854, since only his widow was listed from 1854.
