Comments: Came to NYC about 1850 and worked there as an artist and cigar-maker until about 1858. By 1859 he was in Louisville (KY) and a year later in New Orleans. In the 1860 census he was listed as a portrait painter, with personal property valued at $600. Living with him were his wife Emma (28, Prussia) and their three children: Oscar (6, NY), Lena (2, NY), and Albert (3 months, La.).
