biography of Clemens J. PAULI (1835-1896)

Comments: Came to America in 1863 and first worked as a draftsman in Davenport. Met printers A. Hageboeck and C. H.Vogt (see entries) and followed Vogt to Milwaukee. There Pauli joined Adam Beck (see entry) to form a printing firm. Their partnership lasted from 1878-86 with Pauli putting on stone or zinc plates many of the drawings sent to them. A view artist himself, he had drawn views of towns in Iowa and Wisconsin in 1876-77. He reprised his artistic career in 1888, traveling the Midwest and south as far as Mississippi and Alabama.
