Comments: An abstract and figurative painter, in 1957 Ashlock left San Francisco for NYC and became friendly with many of the abstract artists of the first generation of the New York School. Around 1980, he returned to the West Coast, eventually re-establishing himself in San Francisco. Some of his large abstract paintings play with illusions of the sea. He also sculpted the female form.
