biography of John V. DIXEY (XIX)

Addresses: NYC

Profession: Landscape painter

Exhibited: American Academy (1819: bas-relief and six colored drawings; after this date, landscapes); Apollo Association; NAD (1827, 1832)

Comments: A son of the sculptor John Dixey, he appears to have briefly worked in sculpture (exhibiting a relief in 1819); but by 1827 he was showing landscapes and continued to do so until 1841. Dixey was listed in NYC directories from 1827 to 1850 without occupation, as a lawyer from 1853 to 1863. George Dixey (see entry) was his brother.
