Comments: Opposed by his parents in his wish to become an artist, he enlisted in the army and served in America and the West Indies. While stationed in Philadelphia in 1777, he advertised as an ornamental painter. After his return to Cork, Grogan enjoyed a fairly successful career as a painter of landscapes and comic genre, an ornamental painter, and an engraver in aquatint.
