Comments: An influential teacher at the ASL, his own paintings are frequently portraits and glimpses of NYC"s upper social strata ó executed with a cool detachment and sometimes as contemptuous as his art criticism. Although he lived and partied hard in the social milieu of Washington Square and Westport during the 1920s, he did not belong to any groups or colonies. Position: editor, Arts and Decoration for seven years.
