art KARLSRUHE 2018: Art. Space. Emotion.
Numerous one-artist shows, spacious sculpture plazas and exclusive special exhibits: with its hallmark features, art KARLSRUHE – International Fair for Classic Modern and Contemporary Art has written a success story. Galleries from 14 countries will present themselves under the slogan “Art. Space. Emotion.” in the halls of Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre from 22 to 25 February 2018. Furthermore, 20 sculpture plazas will create appealingly spacious venues that invite visitors to linger.

Spanning a spectrum from Classical Modernism to the latest works of Contemporary art, the artworks at art KARLSRUHE are thematically assigned to the four halls of the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre. This thematic arrangement facilitates orientation and presents artworks from an approximately 120-year timespan in their correct art-historical sequence.
The fair with museum-like quality
Visitors can immerse themselves in the world of Classical Modernism in Hall 3: from German Expressionism as represented by galleries such as Henze & Ketterer (Wichtrach near Bern / Riehen near Basel), Ludorff (Düsseldorf) or Thole Rotermund (Hamburg), to international abstraction à la Calder, Chillida, Corbusier, Feininger or Picasso, the pioneers of their styles can be seen here in large numbers. Hall 3 alone hosts circa 70 exhibitors, including Koch-Westenhoff (Lübeck), Kunstkontor Möllers (Münster), Schlichtenmaier (Grafenau/Stuttgart) and Schwarzer (Düsseldorf), who present an enormous diversity that’s rarely encountered even in museums.
From Informal art, through the Zero Movement, to Pop Art
Visitors in Hall 3 can also find works by many artists of the postwar generation that invented Informal Art in the late 1940s and 1950s. Spontaneous, gestic paintings from this era will be offered for sale by galleries such as Maulberger (Munich) and Zellermayer (Berlin). The showing of nonrepresentational art, as well as its contentual extension into the present day, continues vis-à-vis in Hall 2: galleries such as Baumgarten (Freiburg), Döbele (Mannheim/Dettelbach near Würzburg) and Nothelfer (Berlin) have long numbered among art KARLSRUHE’s participants.
Hall 2, which is dedicated to Modern Classicism (after 1945), hosts over 70 additional exhibitors ranging from Michael Schultz (Berlin), through Ernst Hilger (Vienna), to Meyer Riegger (Karlsruhe): they and their colleagues offer a broad spectrum of established Contemporary art ranging from Informal art, through artworks from the Zero Movement and Pop Art, to tendencies from the area of Concrete art. Several of these gallerists present special and rarely encountered positions such as Realism or Neo-Expressionism.
Fresh from the atelier
Immediately adjacent in Hall 1, visitors will find special exhibits and the Museum Mile, and can also purchase graphics, photographs and multiples, including numerous affordably priced artworks. Needless to say, bargains such as these also await discovery in the dm-arena/Hall 4, where “ContemporaryArt 21” presents many pieces that were created very recently.
