URVANITY

New Contemporary Art Fair

February 17–March 3, 2019

COAM - Madrid (Spain)

URVANITY, the first Spanish Fair dedicated to New Contemporary Art is back, a term which gathers disciplines based in Urban Art, like Post Graffiti, Surrealist Pop or the new Pop Art. A unique occasion to enjoy the works of the disciplines most recognized artists from all over the world and a necessary appointment during the Madrid Art Week. The third edition of URVANITY will take place from the 28th of February until the 3rd of March at COAM (Hortaleza 63) in Madrid.

_Emblematic galleries like Wunderkammern from Italy, RuArts Gallery from Russia, Urban Spree from Germany or My Name’s Lolita Art, Yusto/Giner and SC Gallery from Spain will be part of the exhibition program that includes numerous national and international galleries.

_Concurrently, interventions at murals and art installations by recognized artists will be realized and completed with a complete program of conferences, talks and roundtables, curated by the creators of the Urban Art Bible, Brooklyn Street Art.

_URVANITY also presents the Special Project ‘Okuda San Miguel by IQOS’, with unreleased works by the artist.

_In its third edition, the fair includes for the first time a section of solo shows featuring Dan Witz, Miss Van, Jan Kaláb and Sam3.

After the success of the two previous editions – featuring works of popular names like Banksy, D*Face or Shepard Fairey (Obey) – URVANITY returns to Madrid from the 28th of February to the 3rd of March.

URVANITY is the only fair in Spain, dedicated to the New Contemporary Art, which advocates proposals (with a strong base in the urban context of the 1970’s up until today) that construct a dialogue with modernity, and, as a result, provide a setting from which we can explain the world around us. “The so called New Contemporary Art refers to the artists that started off in the streets with graffities or murals, and that transferred this art to galleries and so to the art market.”, states Sergio Sancho, director of the fair.

URVANITY is also a point of encounter where collectors and experts, as well as the amateur public, can admire and buy works by renowned artists chosen after a long and exhausting selection process.

In the words of Sergio Sancho, “While the New Contemporary Art is already established in other European countries like France, Germany or England, as well as in North America, in Spain it still an emerging market, although it experiences an incredible growth. There are amazing Spanish artists working around the world and, little by little, more and more galleries start to program this kind of contents. Therefore, we are convinced that URVANITY is a necessary fair in the Madrid Art Week”. NEW ART, NEW SCENERIES

The objective of the fair is to explore and imagine possible sceneries for the New Contemporary Art, thanks to the combination with other initiatives and different cultural agents of the town. “It is about the diffusion of contemporary art and collecting of the greater public thanks to the attractiveness that offers the artistic practice developed in the urban context”, says Sancho.

After the great reception of the previous edition, counting with the presence of 20 national and international galleries and an enormous growth in visitors, this year the event will again take place at COAM (Hortaleza, 63). A vivid space, accessible and open to culture, art, society and architecture, situated in between the neighborhoods Chueca and Malasaña. A location impossible to improve and in line with the young, new and fresh style of the fair.

Among the international artists whose works will be exposed in this edition, are renowned names like urban artists Miss Van, the realistic painter and pioneer of the New York Street Art movement Dan Witz, the Italian duo Miaz Brothers, known for their innovative portrait technique, the spacial artist Hendrik Czakainski, the Russian muralist Marat Morik, the 3D graffiti exponent Jan Kaláb or the Belgian collective Hell’O. Also, the Kazakh surrealist illustrator Dilka Bear or the American stencil artist Logan Hicks.

From Spain there will be works of the Majorcan artist Grip Face, the multidisciplinary artist Mario Mankey, the abstract painter Anna Taratiel, the graffiti artist and painter Belin or the figurative muralists Daniel Muñoz and Sfhir, among many more.

International galleries in the third edition of URVANITY are Wunderkammern (Italy), Urban Spree (Germany), Affenfaust Galerie (Germany), Doppelgaenger (Italy), RuArts Gallery (Russia), Galería Balneario (Mexico), MAGMA Gallery (Italy), Antonio Colombo (Italy), Martina’s Gallery (Italy), Pantocrator Gallery (China), Galo Art Gallery (Italy), StolenSpace Gallery (UK), Cerquone Projects (Venezuela), ADDA & TAXIE (France), NextStreet Gallery (France) and The Roger Project (EEUU).

Also the Spanish galleries Durán Online Gallery (Madrid), My Name’s Lolita Art (Madrid), Yusto/Giner (Marbella), Fousion Gallery (Barcelona), SC Gallery (Bilbao), Montana Gallery (Barcelona), Swinton Gallery (Madrid) and Galería Manuel Ojeda (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) will be part of the fair.

TALKS, INTERVENTIONS AND NEW CURATED SECTIONS

The program of the fair also includes a program of talks and roundtables curated by the Brooklyn Street Art (BSA) a project and magazine based in New York.

One of the news of this third edition is the new Special Curated Program, a program of activations commissioned by a comity of independent curators: Sabina Chagina, Co-founder and Curator of Artmossphere, Street Art Biennale of Moscow; Juan Bautista Peiró, professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Valencia and art critic; and Sergio Pardo López, Associate Director of the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, New York.

The Special Curated Program is composed of three sections –solo shows, interventions and murals - which are intended to increase knowledge about contemporary art and collecting among the broader public:

_The artists Dan WItz, Miss Van, Jan Kaláb and Sam 3 were chosen for the solo shows where visitors will be able to enjoy the works of each of them in their own, independent context. _The interventions will come from the hands of the artists Juan Miguel Quiñones, Sabek, Isaac Cordal, Moneyless and 1010. _The artists Poni, Pro176, Marat Morik and Artez will be in charge of giving a new look to four walls in the city.

In addition, the Special Project ‘Okuda San Miguel by IQOS’ will take place, for which the renowned Spanish painter and sculptor has created an impressive installation where he will show almost twenty unreleased works.

Also this year, URVANITY supports emerging artists with the Tuenti-URVANITY ART New Contemporary Art contest, directed to Fine Arts Students from Spain. As in the previous edition, the fair will dedicate a space to the winners, who will expose their works along with the rest of artists, being so part of the professional circuit of galleries, artists and collectors.
