Additional information: This is an original Pencil drawing by the artist Serge Ferat.
It is one of the preparatory studies for the painting “ Batavia (The Woodcutters)” which belonged to the important collection of P.A.Regnault. The painting was exhibited in the retrospective exhibition in the Grand Palais, Paris in 1926 and again in the exhibition of 1938 in the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam.

Férat showed his work, with that of other Cubists, at the Salon des Indépendants until 1928, and at La Section d’Or in 1925 - whose Europe-wide reputation furthered recognition of his work.
Thereafter he gradually distanced himself from the strictures of Cubism, and developed a passion for the circus and parades.
Férat, who died in 1958, bequeathed his collection to Haba Roussot, his companion for over 20 years.
Until her death in 2001, Haba devoted all her energy to promoting Serge Férat's work, showing it
across Europe and in the United States and Japan.

Provenance: Collection Haba and Alban Roussot.

Condition: Good condition. Tears along all margins. Time and humidity staining present.
