Jan Kovaleski grew up surrounded by artwork as both his parents, Mitchell Kovaleski and Faith Rookus, are successful artists. He naturally began drawing and painting at an early age. He studied painting, photography and printmaking with artists Les Biller, Edmund Teske and Llyn Foulkes at the University of California Los Angeles, UCLA College of Fine Art.  He continued his studies in drawing and painting at UCLA Extension with William Lane, Joseph Blaustein and Sam Amato, 1977-83. Before attending UCLA, Jan had already designed sets for the Hollywood Theater Arts Workshop for several productions. After graduating in 1972, Jan worked for major record companies as a graphic artist designing records albums, posters and brochures. He currently lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
