Affandi was a traveler both in geographical and cultural space. He was celebrated for his idiosyncratic, unorthodox style and bold subject matter on his works. In 1970 onward, he created several paintings promoting rich Indonesia's culture. Entitled to "Harvest in Rice Field, the present work portrays a harvest tradition in rice farming. He depicted farmers in harvesting the rice that most rice farming in Java is wet rice cultivation. He highlighted the fields are flooded, either by rain and irrigation water, where the farmers occupied with their activity. The type of rice farming is called sawah or padi rice. Wet rice cultivation in Java has a number of characteristics.
