Observations

Comparative drawings are the “Glorification of Religion” and the “Marriage of Peleus and Thetis” both kept in the Musée du Louvre, Département des Arts Graphiques (inv.nos.21113, 23831), the “Magical Scene with Diabolical Figures appearing to three Roman Soldiers” formerly with Sotheby’s London in 2004, the “Mars and Venus” formerly with Galerie Koller in Zurich in March of 2000, the “Autumn” and “Winter” both with Galerie Kornfeld in Bern in 2000, and the “Marriage of Peleus and Thetis” formerly with Sotheby’s in New York in January of 1993. As some of the mentioned comparative drawings are dated to around 1710, a similar dating can be assigned to the present drawing.
