This patinated bronze "Laureen" by Joe Fafard is inscribed with signature, date and edition number. This work is Edition 7/10.

Born into a French Canadian family of farmers, Joe Fafard (1942-2019) completed a BFA in 1966 at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, and a Masters of Arts degree with Pennsylvania State University.

Fafard came to national attention in the early 1980's after winning a now famous commission to create seven life-sized bronze cows, an outdoor installation for the Toronto Dominion Bank, Toronto. Fafard's bronze sculptures, small and large scale, reveal the artist's affection for rural life.

Fafard was named an Officer the Order of Canada in 1981 and has received honorary doctorates from the University of Regina, the University of Manitoba in 2007 and the U. of Saskatchewan in 2012.
