XIANG WENYAN (Chinese, died in 1898) also named YOUPING Ink painting, signed with the seal & dated 1897. This exceptional work was made just before his death, when this Master was at his talent peak. Xiang Wenyan, alias Youping, a native of Huai'an, Jiangsu province, specialized in landscapes and figure paintings. His style of painting landscapes was especially influenced by the Yuan masters Ni Zan and Huang Gongwang.
