Comments: In 1845-46 he made a military reconnaissance of the Oregon country for the British Government, taking many sketches on the spot which were later engraved to illustrate his Sketches in North America and the Oregon Territory (1848). Warre later served as colonel of the Wiltshire regiment in the Crimean and New Zealand wars and retired with the rank of General.
