Anselm KIEFER (1945)

Anselm Kiefer (b. 1945) grew up in a post-war Germany ravaged by bombs. The identity of his country and its ruined landscapes; after the Nazi period, have a huge influence on his work.

He says: “History for me is a material like landscape or color”. Kiefer trained at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Joseph Beuys and became closely influenced by the neo-expressionism of Georg Baselitz. He explores all media and materials and combines them inhis work; often in large formats, which acquire great physical presence. The artist has lived and worked in France since 1992 where he is appreciated and honored. Successful in the UK and US marketplaces, the artist conquered the Chinese market in June 2019 with The fertile crescent, 475 x 950 cm, which reached $ 4m at China Guardian Beijing. Kiefer invites artists to leave their mark in his huge studio-wasteland in Barjac: in 2019 he invited Valie Export.
