Comments: Active in Erie (PA) as a portraitist as early as 1829. He painted in Cleveland (OH), 1833-34, opening a studio, but was back in Erie by the late 1830s. Moved to Washington, D.C. in 1846 but returned to Erie again in 1848, at which time he became a mentor to Junius R. Sloan.
