Comments: Listed as an engraver and die-sinker and/or miniaturist in Bolton, Miniature Painters, in Fielding, in Mallett, and in Smith. Although there was a William Bogardus, house painter, in NYC 1844-60, the information given by the above authors indicates that his name has been inadvertently applied to the work of James Bogardus, engraver and die-sinker, and Mrs. James Bogardus, miniaturist. There is no evidence that William Bogardus was an artist.
