Comments: Doherty was a young Irishman whom William Dunlap employed from 1822 to 1824 to exhibit his Christ Rejected" in Norfolk (Va.), Philadelphia, Boston, Utica (N.Y.), and Washington (D.C.). His own work is represented by a miniature of Samuel Munro Wilson (1805-1832), signed and dated "Doherty 1826" and owned in 1935 by an private collector in Charleston (S.C.).
