Comments: A Hartford merchant and nephew by marriage of John Trumbull (see entry), Wadsworth is remembered chiefly as the founder of the Wadsworth Athenaeum Gallery in Hartford in 1844. His own work in watercolors included sketches made on a trip to Quebec in 1819, some of which were engraved to illustrate his published account of the trip .
