Comments: Son of Jacob Hurd, the noted Boston silversmith. His earliest known engraving is dated 1749. In addition to his work as an engraver and silversmith, he cut seals and dies and designed and engraved armorial bookplates. He was the brother of Benjamin Hurd and the uncle of John Mason Furnass (see entries), to whom he left his printing press and some of his engraving tools.
