Clyfford Still is an American artist born in 1904 in Grandin, North Dakota and died in 1980 in Baltimore.

As it evolved, Still’s works, often large in size, shifted from recognizable images and landscapes to darker shapes, colors, irregular shapes and more abstract lines. A retrospective exhibition was dedicated to him in 1979 by The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. In 2011, the Clyfford Still Museumopened in Denver, Colorado, where nearly 95% of his works are kept, mostly dated between 1951 and 1980. The same year, a large canvas from 1949 exceeded $ 61m at Sotheby’s (1949-A-N°1).
