Comments: In 1926 he joined the Taos art colony, where he painted the local landscape in a style influenced by Dasburg and Marin. Lockwood's work became more abstract in the 1940s and he explored totemic themes. During the early 1960s he created junk assemblages. He had more than 45 solo exhibits in his career. Teaching: Univ. Texas, Austin, 1938-39; Univ. Kansas, 1957-58 (while on leave from UC Berkeley); Univ. Calif., Berkeley, 1949-61.
