c.1888-91 Italian countryside landscape Oil on oval canvas signed "HD" on bottom right part. Danger studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904) and Aimé Millet (1819-1891). In 1887, he was awarded the prestigious Prix de Rome. During his stay at the Villa Medici from 1888 to 1891, he painted portraits of his fellow students but also landscapes of Rome and the surroundings of Siena like our very rare painting. Danger was just as well known for his intimate genre scènes and landscapes inspired by the Italian countryside. Provenance : Private collection near Paris Never appeared in public auction. The best period of the Master, in the years following his Prix de Rome. A larger 1892 painting (157x217cm) but on a less seducing theme came over a hundred thousand euros three years ago.
