Oil on cardboard signed & dated on the upper right part “90” “St”.The signature “St” and the dating “90” in the upper right part are unreadable without lightening the dark background of the image. Provenance : Private collection Paris – Private collection Bordeaux. Opponent of injustice, sympathetic towards the underprivileged, who then were not lacking in Montmartre, he depicted scenes from the street, factories, the mine, depicting the unfortunate of all kinds, beggars, workers in misery, ragged kids and prostitutes. These characters seem more often overwhelmed by their sad condition than revolted. He is also the specialist in cats, which he draws without tiring, in all their fantasy, players, asleep or angry. He also draws female nudes as this rare painting of 1890.
