Artwork description

Oil on metal signed “Major D with a T inside followed by an F” on lower right part near the cask seat. Incised on verso “N°216” reference  Dimensions 16,9x20,5cm  Provenance : Swedish private collection.
Probably after the Pencil Pen & Ink drawing “A laughing peasant with a pipe, gamblers beyond” 14,3x14,7cm sold at Christies London 5-7-2011 lot 49. "... the guys he silhouetted, real Brabant peasant types, with a tight bust, strong legs, large head, with enormous eyes, seduced by their profound realism.” (L'art flamand Jules Dujardin 1896 Bruxelles p115).
