A man and woman, depicted in painterly passages of moss green, yellow and sapphire blue, pass each other on a city street illuminated by a full moon that appears as a small circular light at the top of the picture plane in this oil painting on canvas. The picture plane of this layered, almost square composition tilts and flattens slightly enhancing the overall abstract direction of the cityscape.
Hornyak was invited to participate in the World Exhibition in Paris in 1987 along with Modigliani, Picasso and van Dongen. Her work has been exhibited throughout Europe and North America. Her portrait paintings were recently featured in a public exhibition in Montreal at the McClure Gallery for the Visual Arts. Since early July 2015, they have been on exhibit at the Oeno Gallery.
"We cannot reproduce nature, nor should we want to. All we can do is see and feel, and aim to transcend ourselves." Jennifer Hornyak
