Artwork description

The pair of paintings refers to the hand of Giovanni Stefano Danedi, known as Montalto (1612 - 1690). The typical formalisms of the artist, extensively recurring within his pictorial corpus, such as the emotional charge conferred by the warm brightness, also characterize the couple in question. The iconicity of the present cherubs can also be found in the little angels and the Child of Christ and angels, known variously as Sleeping Bacchus, from the collection of paintings of the Castello Sforzesco in Milan, and in the love of the abandoned Dido from the same civic collection. Consider also the angels frescoed by the artist himself within the Multiplication of the loaves of the Cathedral of Monza and in those of the altarpiece with S. Maria Maddalena de 'Pazzi for the Church of S. Maria del Carmine in Milan: equal playful exuberance.
