This work is one of the most representative of the artist in fact, MoMA has a similar work in its collection. The piece made of glass represents a chest that the author has called small mountain. Both the form and the theme it represents shows us how the artist starts from an organic conception in which she raises broader concepts in allusion to nature, motherhood and the creation of life.
Kiki Smith is an artist related to the artistic currents of feminism and body art. Her work is characterized by a strong interest in social issues, with a highly political approach, using traditional representations of erotic women by male artists, and often exposing women's internal biological systems as a metaphor for hidden social problems.
