Artwork description

Cabinet in ebony, ebony veneer, tortoiseshell, embroidery of gold, silver and silk threads.
These cabinets, rare given the fragility of the materials, are not very common on the art market. The use of woven fabrics in furniture decoration was mainly used in England and Flanders (embroidery, stamps, cut paper). Here, the theme revolves around fantasy animals (griffins, dragons), birds, trees and exotic flowers.
The two doors open onto a series of eleven drawers and a central door with engaged torso columns revealing six small drawers.
Note the architectural decoration "Italian style" in tortoiseshell on the outside of the doors, while we usually have just applications of guilloche.
The top opens to reveal two embroidered panels and an all-original central mirror.
Posterior base, as often.
Flanders, Antwerp, 1st half of the 17th c.
