"Places of Memory" is a powerful and thought-provoking series that challenges us to consider the ways in which the past is preserved and remembered in our societies. Pierre Toutain-Dorbec photographs, by exploring the relationship between history, memory, and identity, remind us of the importance of preserving and commemorating the past in order to understand the present and shape the future. It recognizes that memory is not just an individual experience, but a collective one that is shaped by cultural, political, and social factors.
For this series, Toutain-Dorbec create composite photographs from different original negatives, and uses dry plates.
The print (from a scanned dry plate):
Piezography is an inkjet printing through an all-carbon process. Because Piezography uses pure carbon instead of pigment, print lifetime is limited only by the durability of the paper, and should be able to last generations without observable fading.
