Artwork description

Giovanni da San Giovanni (20 March 1592 – 9 December 1636), also known as Giovanni Mannozzi, was an Italian painter of the early Baroque period. He trained under Matteo Rosselli and gained recognition for his decorative works. Giovanni adorned the Palazzo Pitti's Sala degli Argenti and had plans for decorations at Villa La Petraia. Notably, he painted ceiling canvases at Casa Buonarroti and frescoes at the church of the Ognissanti in Florence. His notable works include scenes from the Life of St Francis in the Ognissanti cloister. Giovanni also oversaw the façade decoration of Palazzo dell'Antella in Florence. He passed away in 1636 and was buried in the church of San Pier Gattolino.
