Very rare Oil on canvas signed indistinctly “P.Kotik” on bottom right part and dated “18” from his teaching & Expressionist period at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Within the 1918 end of First World War, one can understand the strength of an emotional vision of a tormented world. The Sarajevo bombing sparked World War I during the visit of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian crown, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, six years after the annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The assassin Princip is determined to hit the monarchy that annexed Bosnia-Herzegovina. he awakens the conscience of the Bosnian Slavs, whether Serbs or Croats, Christians or Muslims, by inciting them to rebel against the Austro-Hungarian occupier. Kotik was -as illustrated by his family name- one of these Slavs.
