Artwork description

Johann Nikolaus Groot was a German portrait painter, a representative of the Groot dynasty of painters. His father - Johann Cristoph Grooth, was a court painter and composer at Württemberg. He taught his sons, including Johann Nikolaus Groot, how to paintand study the collection in the electoral gallery in Ludwigsburg.

Paintings by Johann Nikolaus belong to the European classical art of the XVIII century, the artist is a representative of the school of "old masters".

Johann Nikolaus worked as a restorer before his career as a portraitist in Switzerland, where he moved in 1759 and where he likely painted this young girl.
