Artwork description

Original lithograph, circa 1896, in black on wove paper, signed with initials in the stones “C.P”, and hand signed, lower right, and titled in pencil, left, in the lower left, corner annotated “no. 4” in pencil with full margins.

Edition: This is number 4 out of a lifetime edition of only 11 proofs. There were also 18 proofs, stamped and numbered, made posthumously in 1923 in an edition made by Jean Callac.  A further edition was made by the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford,  in 1998

Provenance: Sothebys, New York, Thursday 18/10/1993, Lot 00891 (19th & 20th Centiury Prints” - Sold for US$3450

Note: The image for this item was made on the same plate as “Bucherinnes” (Delteil 164).

Condition: In good condition. With minor tape marks verso not visible recto.

Exhibitions: The Lightbox Museum: “Impressionism: The Art of Life” 29/9/2018 - 13/1/2019. This item was loaned to the Lightbox for this show and their label showing this is displayed on the back of the frame.
